If you’re struggling with passivity in your presenting, there may be a few underlying factors in how you view your qualifications to lead. Without clarity and purpose, it’s difficult to connect the importance of what we do to who needs to hear it.
Or perhaps you wouldn’t identify yourself as passive, but want to sound more like well-grounded types like Derek Halpern, Gary Vee, and Ginni Rometty.
I’ll share insider strategies from some of the world’s most compelling speakers in my Supreme Guide to Speaking with Authority On Camera (and anywhere else) that’s due out soon.

Take your place upfront by becoming the leader who says:
“Someone out there needs to hear this right now. I’m not going to waste any time getting it to them.”
“Instead of waiting for learning how to speak and act perfectly, I’m going to find a way to get clear on my message so I can bring them quality value they can’t find anywhere else.”
“If only 1 person shows up, I’m going to give them my ALL. They’re trusting me with their time and energy – they deserve my very best.”
When you shift that focus off of yourself and onto the people in your audience (or “one person” if it helps you) you gain confidence AND purpose, causing you to speak in a position of authority giving value and elevating your listener’s trust.
Suddenly you’re firmly planted in what you KNOW is effective, you get out of your own way, and convey the urgent wake up call your listener has been craving.
I call this, the Shift Technique. It’s based on what I learned while presenting on television.
A few reminders as you move forward today:
You’re doing them a favor by sharing your valuable knowledge!
If your audience shows up – reward them by giving value and also entertaining them – they deserve it
You control the show – not the opposite.
